Fourth graders in Ms. Casasa-Blouin’s class at Talbot Elementary School recently completed a Side x Side bookmaking program led by teaching artist Anne Ackerman and integrated with a science and literacy unit on sound waves. During the program, students created informational pages about wave forms, wave lengths, amplitude, and pitch using diagrams, charts, illustrations, and prints. To help viewers understand the concepts in their books, some students added a glossary, illustrations of how sound moves, or flaps or pockets with additional information. About the Author pages were also created and added to each book. The program culminated in a celebration of learning that included a classroom gallery walk where visiting staff members learned all about sounds waves from the students!
