Welcome to the registration page for the Side x Side Summer Arts Institute. The 2017 Summer Arts Institute will take place June 26-27 at the Portland Museum of Art.

The 2017 Summer Arts Institute is available to educators at East End Community School, Hall Elementary School, Ocean Avenue Elementary School, Reiche Community School, Riverton Elementary School and those teachers who participated in Side x Side’s comparison group.

Workshop Descriptions:

Film at Oak Street Studios with Anne, Terry, Tonee and Casey
Join the Side x Side film team to learn the technical skills behind producing an original movie and how to adapt film projects to any subject or grade level.

Mixed Media at Pamela Moulton’s studio with Pamela
Work with dynamic teaching artist, Pamela Moulton, and explore using multiple materials (found objects, hand-crafted, recycled) to create large group projects.

Dance/Theater at Mechanics Hall with Gretchen and Lisa
Learn how to integrate dance and physical theater into your curriculum to enhance storytelling and narrative skills.

Printmaking/Bookmaking at USM with Leah, Sarah, Alicia and Jill
Combine simple printmaking and book-building techniques to create stunning one-of-a-kind books. Adapted for all grade levels and content areas.

3-D Printing at CI2 Lab, USM
Work side by side with technology experts at USM's Creative Intelligence and Innovation Lab to learn the ins and outs of 3-D printing and ways to bring this emerging technology into the classroom.

Mapping/Journaling at the PMA with Laurie and Molly
Laurie and Molly will help you explore the dynamic possibilities of visual journaling and the use of visual imagery to express a variety of concepts and ideas.

Paper Mache (puppet/sculpture) at Nance’s Studio with Nance and Cat
Work with master puppeteer Nance Parker and Cat LaBarre to create original 3-D paper mache sculptures.
