First and second graders in the Spanish immersion program at Lyseth Elementary School recently wrapped up a Side x Side program led by teaching artist Sarah Boyden and integrated with a science and social studies unit on animals. Based on the Mexican folk art of Alebrijes, students designed animals with super powers, illustrated them, wrote about them, and turned them into puppets. The program culminated with a celebration of learning where students shared their puppets and their writing with peers and families.
