Before you begin…
Glue painted map grid pieces onto a large piece of mat board in their correct locations and in grid form, with space left around each piece before class begins. Create a gluing station that can accommodate four students.
Step 1: Cut and glue special places
Invite four students at a time to join you at the gluing station. Here, they will cut out their special place and glue it to a piece of foam core.
Step 2: Place the special place
Students should refer to the large map of Portland to determine where their special place belongs on the map and glue it in that location.
Teaching Tip: Have students write descriptive sentences or favorite memories about their special place, while they wait for their turn at the glue station. These sentences can be shared as part of the celebration of learning.
