Teaching artist Pamela Moulton visited second graders at Ocean Avenue Elementary School each month as part of a Side x Side sketchbook journal program that began in November and continued throughout the school year. Using sketchbook journals as tools for reflection and self expression, students were introduced to a new social emotional learning topic each month and learned different techniques to express themselves including doodling, lettering, and blind contour, gesture, and observational drawing. At the end of each session, students shared their work, ideas, and reflections with the group.
