This tutorial serves as a resource for the Side x Side Program Lesson Plan:
Bookmaking: Maine Animals, LESSON 1, Step 3: Observational Drawing
Class Description:
This video tutorial demonstrates how to draw animals realistically by simplifying the body parts and breaking them down in to geometric shapes. Working from a photograph, students will learn to observe and analyze the individual body parts of the animal they are studying. After determining the basic shapes and lightly sketching them in with pencil, finer details such as pattern, texture, and finally color will be added to complete the illustration.
Supplies:
- Illustration of your animal for reference
- Paper
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Crayons, markers, or watercolors for adding color
