Awakening Tomorrow's Innovators through Art
Students will learn how to use physical theater to relay content from research. They will learn the process of storytelling through emotion, movement, and interpretation as well as learn the different roles and collaborations that occur throughout the process of creating a physical theater performance.
*This unit pairs well with Mural Making
Storytelling through kinesthetic movement helps us reveal and express new understandings.
Students will understand:
Teachers introduce the guest teaching artist: a physical theater professional. The teaching artist will teach students about physical theater and practice ways it can be used to communicate and share knowledge. Teachers and teaching artist share the project overview.
Students will learn about physical theater and ways it connects to their curriculum and learning.
Students will learn how to arrange scenes using physical theater techniques, based on newly researched content knowledge.
Students will learn the parts of a stage and their roles as actors in the space.
Students will rehearse their roles as actors in preparation for a public performance.
Students will participate in a celebration of their work and share their performance with community and peers.
